MULLET

id luv to catch a mullet this year, cause last year i seen loads down in a mark i fish. i tried to catch them but i just new i was doing somthing wrong., it was so frustrating cause they were 8lb plus and i hadnt a clue how to catch them.

can anybody give me info on tactics and tackle and so on??

love catching mullet myself, they take a bit of coaxing! Plenty of ground baiting with bread. Keep your offerings small and steady. Coarse tackle is the order of the day light mono and float rod, wagglers or bubble floats, hooks no bigger than size eight. When you see fish beginning to take small pieces of bread your heart starts pounding, but your not home and hosed yet!! i have spent hours watching mullet playing with the hook bait, nibbling away but not fully committing! It can be downright frustratin! But every mark is different, "wild" mullet roaming a stretch of beach or rockmark are much more finicky than mullet hanging around outflows at the mouth of rivers or inside harbours where the are accustomed to feeding off our waste. And as hard as they are reputed to be to catch, as a wee lad fishing the back of the red sail fish processing plant in aul clogher head, ive had four or five big bruisers scrapping to be the first to glup down my 1/0 bait holder loaded with mack! ive even had one on a white jelly worm,
just get out there and give them a bash, if it pays off you wont be sorry they fight like the divil himself!! good luck

I use mackerel here in Donegal, lightest tackle possible , size 10 hooks, 8lb mono etc. I do a little bit of ground baiting made up of mackerel, tesco cat food and plenty of bread, don’t over feed them! Then, plenty of patience and some luck thrown in for good measure! If possible, move to different marks after catching. Best of luck!

Don't mind people that say small hooks are needed, i catch all mine on size 6 or 4 short shank hooks. Also, try to find a spot where they are actually feeding as they will take the offered bait much more readily.
