jelly worms or lug/rag?

Thu Feb 16, 2012 3:00 pm

Hi Guys,

This might be an obvious one but I was wondering what ppl find best when targeting cod or pollock? I generally buy a box of either rag or lug when I go out. But if given the choice is rag/lug better than using the jellys? I have some new black worms with fire tails that I havent tried out yet.

Is the advantage of the jellys solely that they are reusable or is there something else?

Cheers

hi mate jelly worms are use like a lure on a lead head or with a couple of split shot but would not be much good as a bait lieing on the bottom therefore rag/lug would be much better if casting out and hoping for the best

rag worm can be a great way of catching pollock & wrass when casted out on light line with a few split shot and then retrived slowly from a rock mark the rougher {weather) it is the more split shot you use and vice versa

Well worth a try off any rock mark that contains pollock. They will often out fish bait. They are especially effective in the west and south west rock marks. I would normally fish them on a lead head jig or between 2 and 5 feet behind a ball or small pear weight.

Fish them as close to the bottom as you dare!

The jelly worms are great for spinning for pollack off deep rock marks and piers when the pollack are back in after the winter.the lug is a great bait for cod,tip the lug with a strip of squid or a mussel.try using the lug under a float in the warmer months for pollack and wrass, its great craic off the rocks.
