left handed multipliers

well, i recently moved from using a fixedspool to a multiplier. im right handed and i useually winded in with my left hand and pumped the rod with my right, i find it difficult to reel in with my right. and i noticed that most multipliers are made with right hand wind. (all the good 1s).

is this something i should get used to r should i change to a left hand wind????

Went through the same last year, felt completely alien at first. Tried holding the rod as I would wit my FS gear and it didn't work for me. Two different styles of fishing to me to be honest and I just made myself get used to it. I only pump when i really have to as I find it hard to get the line lay right while pumping.

Rod on the hip and reel, i was advised by a top angler to move my reel low, not tourney casting low but where I could hip the rod hold the rod , control line lay with the left hand and have the reel in a comfortable position for reeling with the right. Took a while to get used to casting left handed too. I still have to look at my reel for line lay. Find whats comfortable and reeling will come.

I let the drag cover any pull from the fish (should be so lucky, pin whiting don't pull much) or large tide powered weed fish. Being able to use the drag easily is one of the reasons I started with a multi. Pain tightening up a fixed spool casting and setting the drag every cast. You forget to loosen when there is smoothies or bass about and you learn the hard way.

i had the same problem mate when i went from f/s to multi but got used to it fairly quick but if your looking for a multi that is left handed then abu do a range of 6500 that will suit you i have the 6501 c4 and a c3 and it a great reel but only for clean ground fishing but are hard to get parts for as most of the part you see on tackle sites or ebay are for right handed reels


on another note if anyone has a pinion gear for a 6501 left hand could you let me know thanks

Akios have a range of left handed multipliers. I haven't used any of the Akios gear so can't comment on build quality etc but they seem to get good reports.

keep at it with the right hand multi and you will be able to reel in with your eyes shut after a while ,as for reel up or down the butt thats up to you i find up the butt much easier to fish with and more comfortable and less strain on the back for fishing plus you are controlling the spool release with the same hand as you do with fx spool so less rewiring in the grey matter
