Conger?

Need advice on how to set up a simple rig for conger fshing right beneath my feet at a mark i fish at. Somebody please answer the questions below?
Put my mind at rest

Wat type of rig do i use? I.e do i simply insert a slider boom above the conger rig

The ground is rich in snags do i use a normal lead or a grip lead?

Is it safe to leave the rod on the tripod?

Suggestions would be most appreciated

best bet for conger fishing in close on rough ground is 8/0 Mustad bronze o'shannesy tied to 10 inches of heavy mono 150lb plus and a good quality swivel ,this is your main trace ,if you want you can use this on a pulley rig or else just tie it dirrectly to your main line which should be at least 30lb and tie your weight to the top eye of the swivel using a short length of 20lb mono .

its safe to use tripod if you put thr ratchet on really loose

I tend to use plain weights when Conger fishing as due to the nature of the ground you are fishing it can be a rare event to get them back!

That is why Ronald was suggesting that you use a rotten bottom rig ( the line attaching the weight is weaker than the main reel line ). In this way, if the weight gats snagged you loose it but get the rig back - hopefully with Conger attached :D

Grip leads don't work as well lower underneath your feet. A heavy (eg 12 ozs) flattened lead is best. Some multipliers have rachets that don't give line easily such as the sl30 which has lead to rods being lost even when the multiplier is left in free spool.
