Shore fishing advice please

Sun Jan 29, 2012 8:45 pm

Hi, I am staying in the area for a couple of weeks late March.

Although not particulary a fishing holiday as my wife will be recovering from a spine op, I do intend to fish around the cottage we are stying in.

These are the directions Take the N59 from Galway to Clifden. Upon arrival in Clifden, take the Westport Road. Follow this road until you come to a cross roads for Cleggan. Keep following the road to Letterfrack/ Westport

Still on N59 Take the very first left about two miles further.
At the end of this road you will come to a small junction , keep going straight and follow the road directly in front of you in the trees. This is called Ross Road. Go past Ross Cottages road bears left continue and there is a small road on the right before you come to the beach. Take this road to the right, Go through two gates. The house is located at the end of this road

If anyone can give me some local knowledge for the close proximity of the cottage, I would be most grateful.

I have looked at the area in google earth, and there is a large sandy bay at the back of the cottage, and it looks like a deep gulley running about 75 yards from the shore line, and possibly some rocks just to the left of the cottage.

I normally fish along the east coast of England, so have some knowledge, but some local info would be very well recieved.

Thanks in anticipation
Steely

Hi Steely,

your best bet is to contact Doug Priddy who runs the tackle shop "A Shore Thing" at the Quay in Westport. The number is 098 28446.
