the central fisheries board do the best I've found. It can be found on their site
http://www.cfb.ie the site is worth a brouse or on
http://www.cfb.ie/pdf/fishbook.pdf
the book has 33 pages in it when you download it so make shore you have plenty of paper ready

The best site for fish identification, that I have found, is
http://www.fishbase.org
This site covers local names and even has a quiz section if you fancy yourself as a real ID expert.

had a look at this fishbase site. If I caught every fish on the cfb site I'd die a happy angler.

The Collins guide which you can get in easons is very good....

There are fish id books by Alwynne Wheeler that a lot of the fish biologists consider as the definitive literature
