Shore Groundbait

Hi everyone

Was wondering what a good recipe for Sea Groundbaiting was and what species it could attract

More for Summer fishing but Anything welcome

Any bait you have is good chop it fine . ground bait
will attract fish but it also attracts crabs sometimes a good thing sometimes not! During the summer it can attract dog fish by the dozen!

What situations do you use ground bait for? I can understand it in lakes where there are no currents - but on the coast, unless it is tied in a bag, ground bait must disperse quickly.

I would use it in a mesh/onion bag thrown over the side of a pier with a rope attached so it would just give out a scent trail.

Like most things in fishing there is n simple answer to groundbaiting. There are plenty of marks here on the Beara where because of little tide flow groundbaiting is effective but useless if you tried it say at Dursey Sound where the tide rip is vicious.
Most important thing is consistency. It needs to be like concrete and go straight down to the bottom without breaking up. Golf size balls can be sent a long way out using a coarse anglers catapult such as a 'whopper dropper' After a few bruised knuckles you will get the hang of it.
I have also used the Armor mesh to make little sausages to act as a swimfeeders and have had some success there but the problem is fish taking the 'sausage' and ignoring the bait.
I use mainly minced mackerel and breadcrumbs but anything with a scent will work and additives from the carp world can also be used, if I could just get hold of extract of peeler crab it would be brill.
