[*]Hi all , I'm new to the site but have been doing mainly coarse and pike angling for the last few years . I used to do a good bit ofboat and shore angling Along the east coast but that was a few years ago . Anyway the long and the short of it is I've been hearing of these lovely cod coming from Waterford cork area . I'm thinking of heading down to Youghal for an evenings fishing a few days after Christmas , just wondering as it's just offa spring tide Is this stretch affected by a strong run of tide . We were thinking of Waterford but due tonthe spring tide have chosen cork ? Any pointers ? Or marks worth giving a go with this conditions as don't want to waste the long drive ! Thanks in advance . Pms of course thanks

Hi Jellybait and welcome to the site, i find the best time to fish Youghal is on the slacker tides (due to the flow of water through the area) with fresh peeler as bait as this has turned out some good fish for us, saying that there are a lot of more experienced lads on the site here with more experience in the area itself
Look forward to reading the fishing reports
Regards

yes conger is right about the tides. just had a look at the tide book there and if i were to pick a day after christmas friday would be the day.anything over 3.8 tides can be hard going and too much rain beforehand seems to put fish off too but the beaches around are throwing up some nice fish too so plenty options anyway .best of luck to you

Youghal is a crackin spot for the cod if their in. Defo slack tides and if is been pelting rain, then(in my experience) forget it. Lug work well as well. Ive often had a 3 hook rig with a mix of lug and peeler, and if their in, regulary bring up a brace of cod. Some good fish of up to 5lb can be caught there. The pier in Youghal is a good spot as well. Can be a lot more comfortable when your sitting in the back of the jeep and watchin the rods with a warm cup of tae!

youghal harbour is fishing well at the moment once darkness comes the fish arent far behind. imo it can be fished on any size tide so long as there is not much weed about the place. big tides bigger leads needed to hold ground. bait wise crab would be the best bait with lug a good back up. youghal beach is always worth a shot if ya cant find a spot in the harbour good catches of cod coalis and the odd whiteing with the possibility of landing a good painted ray as there has been a lot of them landed over the past 2 weeks in the youghal area some of them have been ten pound plus fish. and the beauty of the beach is fish can be caught on all the commonly used baits.
