Hello all, as I am only fishing strong with two years I am looking for peoples opinions on winter fishing. My first question is do bass head out for warmer water in the cold months. Last Janurary was very slow down my way bass wise, actually fish wise bar a few flounder and the odd sea trout. What is the best fish to target from the shore in the winter. I know cod are a good cold weather fish but they are very scarce down here in north Kerry. I have a good cast so distance shouldnt be a problem if needs be. Any info would be a great help as it looks like it will be a cold wet miserable xmas and new year. Thanks alot,,,,, Declan

this time of the year is lean up here too so if you want a good rod bending a trip to cork for some cod is a good idea ,i,ve had bass to 8lb in wexford in january but to be honest its slim pickings,a good surf would help ,after that its whiting ,flounder and coalies up here ,if we are lucky we can have a good run of codling on some wicklow marks but the last two years have been a let down

Hoping the Kerry bass will pick up when/if the weather improves. Had a couple of trips out recently and no good at all. Bit depressing cos the fishing was amazing only a few weeks ago. Looks like Sunday might be alright so may give it a go Sunday night.

If you would like a half descent session out why dont you try Waterford it closer to you that it is to me but I have never been let down by the fishing down there..... Peeler ( if you can get it ) and plenty of lug and razor....
