Budget ebay headtorches, any good?

I had bought my dad a Petzl Tikka Plus 2 headtorch for his birthday and it has been annoying me ever since that his is so much brighter than mine. I was going to get myself the same (£50 with the usb charger for handiness), but have heard people here mention the cheap and possibly decent ebay headlamps. Does anyone have any info or experience on these as it would be decent to pick up a cheapish light, if they are any good and don't break, so I could afford to pick up a few other bits and pieces with my christmas money?

i bought an led headlamp from cork it is made by the energiser comp (as in energiser batteries) i
paid 16.99 euro for it it has two settings on it high or low.have used it a lot and still on the original batteries
i find it more than bright enough for tackling up and baiting in the dark but i cantremember which shop i
got it from . i have seen them recently in our local electrical supply shop here in dunmanway but
didnt look at the price i hope this might help

I got Energizer headlamp from Argos and im more than happy with that, as i dont have to look into distances at 200 meters.

hi, i bought two of these off ebay, very powerful lights never had a problem with them, i also have a silva and a led lenser and i find the lights i got on ebay more powerful, payed 14 euros for them. hope this helps.

thanks guys, my needs would be: lightweight, small, good battery life and brightness for staring at rod tips. I did used to be happy with my present LED headtorch (bought from Veals or Gerrys for about £20 10 years ago), but after seeing my dad's Petzl in action I feel disappointed with it now and would like something brighter as it made a big difference to me not straining my eyes as much. I am one for constantly staring at the rod tips in fear of missing something and the extra brightness helped when I got drizzle on my glasses. I just recall a few guys mentioning the ebay LEDs were good for the price, but when I search thousands come up and I wouldn't be sure where to start.

sorry Stevey, which ones did you buy? Could you even give a clue just to narrow the search down a bit, thanks?

why not buy a tip light for the end of your rod for 4to5 euro instead of using your headlight
which im am sure you leave on when playing any fish in,and flashing it across the water which
could spook other fish.( just a sugestion)

These 4-5 eur lamps wont last long and give a lots of trouble as they were bought from china anyway and are cheap shaite, 8-9eur quality ones are the one to go.
Sry but again, got these tips from local fishermen.
I have 8 euro for single lamp with 2 batteries and cant complain but saw 2 fishermen with these cheap ones and they said, no point to change the batteries, lamp wont work anyway as it got wet ...

I got a Cree headlamp off eBay for fifteen euro.
It is a rechargeable one with a spare battery
Absolutely brilliant have it over a year and could not recommend it highly enough.
The only draw back is that it took about five weeks to get here from china.

Thanks very much guys i'm gonna go with one of those crees, that's what I was looking for, cheap and brighter than my present lamp. Also, that's a couple of guys that have been happy with theirs so that's enough validation for me plus the other guy who recommended also owns expensive ones too. Wow, do people still use those bells I haven't used one since about 25yrs ago ? They do work great as far as I remember though definitely annoying in the wind, but along with tip lights I don't like to clip anything to my rod as a preference. Cheers to everyone for taking the time to help.

Why dont you go to the euro shop and pick up a pack of glow lights and tape then to your rod tip..... only €2 for 30 and the price of a roll of tape, the price is well worth it and would cut down on the batteries you use as I would only use the lamp when making a cocktail and baiting up or walking to a mark... and of course playing the fish in!!!!

theres another one called the Chub Sat A Lite SL250 Headlight, harrissportsmail sell them, it has a cree led and has red and green leds too, i have mine with six mounths and i can only say its the best money iv ever spent great bit of kit, its ten times better the the energiser ones argos sell, its well worth a look and its cheap too.

I hope you all agree here if i say, its all about your budget, there's a huge difference between 10 and 30eur torches ...

yes their is, a 10 euro cree will out shine any 30 euro headtorch bought in a shop i used to waste my money on silva ect but a 100 euro headlight that only last 3 years compared to a 10 euro one thats brighter and lasts a year is a no brainer !(i know plenty of silva owners who gave up after three replacments due to crappy quality wire in silvas )

A mate has bells and this time of year every time he catches something we cant help but break out into christmas carols!!! OH jingle bells jingle bells jingle all the way... also anytime he casts!!
I have a cheap €7 yoke as a spare but the low range price ones just havent got the same power as the more expensive ones... my main is a silva €80 but there are ones lower then that with good lumin

Glad ya posted this rodger the wire ring to my battery pack died might have to explore better makes myself

go for a cree headlamp and you wont be disappointed,I have one for 1 and a half years and its has not given me any problem,its has gotten wet loads of times and has been dropped a good few times as well
I have fished with lads with the high value headlights and wouldn't swap my cree headlight for theirs
