Stuarty there should be plenty on the forum that know the crack and can advise you better than I can, as far as I know its weedy and pretty shallow for about 40 odd yards and then pretty clean beyond that? I cant remember ever fishing bait there myself but Ive spun it a bit and its weedy and shallow, I can really only spin there when the tide is well up.

Hopefully someone with a bit more bait fishing experience on the mark will get back to you. There was a big discussion on here about safety at the ledges during the summer, the conclusion was as far as I can remember, the only safe way to fish there was to get over the wall and off the road. Some anglers had close shaves with speeding cars,

Good luck.

a few weeks ago i saw 2 guys fishing it, but they had their rods and tripods actually on the road

My sister has fished it a few times, but I don't think I could be annoyed.

if you are fishing bait then you'll clear the weed easily with a half-decent cast. you will be out on clean sandy ground then. but the tricky bit is getting the gear (and fish!) up above and over the weed on the retrieve, it is by no means impossible but defo even harder at low tide.
of course, ou can opt to fish in the weed too if you wish, or over it with a float.
ive heard of fish being caught from there but the last time i fished it i could only manage a few doggies.

as cathal says, spinning is possible at high tide when the water is up deep enough over the weed.

here's a link to the debate of the safety of the place:

i couldnt highlight safety enough! (associated to fishing from the road - as you will gather from the link

go for it. let us know how you get on......

personaly me and my fishin buds fish the ledges quite alot and have done for years. tripods are up against the wall on the main antrim coast road. the road gives a good platform to distance cast and although i can understand the concerns of some anglers but if afew safety measures are taken it can be as safe to fish as alot of rock marks that have slippery rocks, slippery weed and rogue waves that could wash you away. even at night with a lantarn and some high viz clothing all the traffic slows down to pass by. the last time we fished there at night a lorry seen the lights and high viz clothing and the next day i went into wrk and one of the drivers said he had seen a couple of guys fishing from the side of the road just outside waterfoot. wheh i told him it was me and the mates he came straight out and said as soon as i seen high viz and lantarn i slowed down as i knew there were people fishing. not everyones cup of tea but like fishin anywere safety first and accidents will be minimal

personally i wouldnt fish anywhere that involves standing on a road, being a motorbiker i have lost all faith in car drivers ability to watch where they are going, not that you are all like that but its better to drive like you are all out to kill me, point is, you can take all the safety percautions you want but it wont save you if someone isnt paying attention where they are driving, it might never happen but i wouldnt take the chance, i have enough metalwork holding my bones together from careless drivers, i dont want anymore

it only takes one idiot to make you a statistic
