Usually its 10lb per ounce, but id go 60lb buy a big spool and use it for trace making too, lenght of leader i normally use is lenght of the rod + 6 turns around the reel spool

x2 . I'd say you'd want to stick with a 6oz lead otherwise the current will drag your bait into a snag . As said before an hour either side of the tide and the current takes over . I used 6oz leads and they even got lifted in the current. Good luck

6Olb..length of the rod plus 10 turns on the reel,as for makes,I use powerflex, hate greased weasel...too much memory, kinks and bends start to slap off the rings...but its whatever you're havin' youself

Thought it was only a mainline but I'm probably wrong. Berkely lines are great i find . They last and have good strenght

i used to use greased weasel but got powerflex on a bulk spool so use that now and never had any complaints with either.
for beach fishing use the lenght of the rod, and a minimum of 6 full turns of the reel, then add a little more for your drop from the tip of the rod.
for fishing de wall you could use a longer leader to help haul them big codlings up by hand to save your reel.
