Pollack as bait?

I was fishing for some mackeral for bait for some Bassing this weekend. I caught enough eventually but my question is this. Whilst fishing for Mackeral off the rocks I must have caught 30 pollack to about 4". Thats 8cm to you young fellows :D
Would these have been any use to say freeze and use like sand eels? It's not that I want to decimate the pollock stocks by starting a craze or anything but a few were badly hooked  and may or may not survive.
Whilst I've read about Mackeral being used for bait and am trying it this weekend I've never read about Pollack?
And I suppose there is a byelaw that prevents me removing these from the sea at that size :?:
Thoughts gentlefolk please......... :?

Quarterflounder,
I've caught whiting on pieces of pollock, and took plaice on razor/pollock cocktails. Also had conger on full pollock. To be honest though, conger aside, I wouldn't exactly be confident using it. Still there is no reason while large bottom fish wouldn't hoover one up.
