Budget set for shore angling ?

Hi folks.

Im new in this forum and also new in serious fishing. Well, i've been fishing for small fish like mackerel and pollock for few years now but in last few months i got more interest into bigger fish and spending out nights on the coast. Well i do like also sea fishing but its hard to get friends together to hire a boat ...
Currently i have the cheapest reel and rod combo (47eur set), which doesnt satisfy me anymore. As i cant throw the hooks much far from the coast, Id say 30 meters max Using 4.5mm 20 pound line and 130g weight ...
So therefore im asking you for a little help here to put together a budget set please.

Lets say my budget is about 150eur just for the rod and reel, what would you recommend to buy ?
As im a rookie in this area i would also gladly listen why you would suggest 1 reel to an other one ...

Its all up to personal preferance if you go fixed spool or Multi but there are plenty of deals about. I picked up a daiwa meanstreak Multi rod for sixty and an abu sports mag second hand for thirty euro and its grand. I also got a greys grx for 90 last week so plenty of bargains to be had so just shop around mate.

I also do shopping on ebay, so all suggestions are more than welcome

I got an Abu 6500 mag 2nd hand here on the site €50. Have it a year now and its still in mint condition ! Great for a first multiplier

Have a look at the shakespeare salt range I have a couple of these rods and they are great

4.5mm line even if your using 0.45mm line its quite thick and will cut down on your distance 0.32mm is better with 0.18 ok for light work,what length is your rod and what length would you like to fish with ?13 foot is a good length for all round shore work grauvell make some nice fixed spool rods that wont break the bank ,the penn powerstick is a good rod also light with a bit of power and very user freindly,a shimano reel say a navi would be a good buy and would last if you didnt abuse it

Have actually 2 cheap rods at the minute, 300m 60-80g casting weight and 270mm 150-200g casting weight rods ...
Now i dont have access to the market section here yet, so for cheaper options i have to look at ebay or donedeal/adverts sites ...

Well, im not sure now, a guy on the beach actually told me the multiplier version would be better as you cant cast way further but takes some time to learn how to use it ?
If theres not a significant difference between them i think i would stay with the fixed pool, but again, im always willing to learn and open to new challenges

You do get more distance allright from the Multi set up . If your baitfishing its great. If you want to use feathers etc spinning every now and again go for a fixed spool set up . Go for a good quality 13ft rod and if your going fixed spool get a penn or Shimano reel . Be bout 80 for a decent surf model. If your going Multi have a look at the abu or penn mags second hand . No need to spend a fortune

if your only a beginner and looking for the fastest improvement in casting distance and ease of use id stay far away from a multi set up for a while.multi's are fine for reasonibly experienced anglers but i'dnever advise for a beginner. best to stick with a fixed spool, load it correctly wit .32 to .35 line and couple with a 13-14 ft rod and you'l do just fine. theres an awful lot of rods in this are available, best thing you could do is call into dan in the halfway angling centre and hav a chat with him.. should be no problem getting a very decent st up for 150 euros.. look at some of the basic casting videos on you tube as well. a few small pointers will give you a big help..

What is the rated casting weight of the rod if you dont know maybe you should try to find out as it may not be rated for the lead that you are looking to cast out... What the weight of the lead that you use.

The rod is 12ft and casting weight 4-8 ounces (225 grams max roughly and i can see that in the add) Do i need more casting weight or bigger rod ? Currently im using weights between 110 and 150 grams, depends on the rod i have.
And then, im not afraid of multi reel really, im a quick learner

I mean if you used to use fixed reel for 6 years are you handy with multi reel then ? I think no ...
Ive used the fixed reel now for 6 years i used to catch maccerel and pollocks here, also couple congers and doggies, maybe its time for the changes Really want to get nicer fish

To be honest I'd go for a 13 ft rod . I have two twelve's and two thirteen's and I find the longer rod better to cast. I'm also new to Multi's and no birds nest yet:) I've been fishing since i was four (twenty six now ) . Best advice would be to start casting in a field . Back to the rod anyway if goin Multi get a rod with an adjustible real seat so you can get your ideal casting position.

So i ended up in the shop and bought Daiwa Seahunter-X 13" 4-6oz rod and Shimano Aerlex XSA 7000 reel. Very little over my budget but i hope i didnt make the worse choice of the gear.
