The red tide has gone, that is the algal bloom has diminished. not sure if the fishing has recovered. it was dingle bay and tralee that were hit hardest but the rest of the penninsula was mostly unnaffected. i know there were a few conger caught in dingle last week, as for the rest i havent heard

It is gone about six or seven weeks now but the fishing is still very poorI suspect that it will take another while yet to recover.

Hi Donal ,
There are loads of posts about Red Tide . Try "search" - I think you'll find just about everything you'll want to know ( except maybe exactly how long it takes for the fishing to recover ) .
Oh yes , and whether it is safe to eat prawns taken from a red tide area . I never did manage to get an answer to that one . I've tried just about everything I can think of . Reckon I'll just have to eat some and hope I don't find out the hard way .
Good luck
Nick

When I was out on my boat on Sept 11th the bloom was still visible in the water under Carrigan Head. Large patches of it, looked for all the world like somebody had poured orange paint into the water. It didn't bother the fishing although this was in deep water where its effects would be neglegible. I'd say that the winds of late have probably cleared it.
