Bass fishing

Ok ive been fishing all year round for 3 years now but only ever once caught bass. Im in the Waterford area and cant really travel too far outside. Im just lookin for advice on somewhere around waterford or surronding areas that can at times produce bass. Not looking for anyones marks, even just what places look like that produce bass. Im open to PMs or just replys. Im getting a little frustrated by the silver bastards now ha

Not trying to be smart but maybe you should try new methods. You should have alot better hit record than that. If it is bait fishing try new rigs with long snoods and big hooks 2 hook flappers, pennel rigs, 1 up 1 down all can be used with a grip lead and with a long snood the bass will hook themselfs when they run with it. Plenty lug on the snood like a string of 3 or 4. Same with Peeler crab use a nice big bait. I was talking to a guy and he had a similar problem as yourself. He told me he was using strips of Mackeral. Waste of time it may work late on when there is nothing else around. Try different distances you could be over casting. If your spinning buy new lures different days require different colour lures all depending on the light. Lures with natural movement are the best. Anybody that works in a bait shop will tell you whats working best.

My point is if your not using the right gear or bait you are at a fierce disadvantage straight away.

You definitely don't have to travel to find bass anyway. Waterford and cork are the best spots in the country for the silver chaps. We were having trouble tempting the bass to our hooks on one of the east cork beaches and we knew there were fish there. In the end we switched from using frozen shop bought black lug to freshly dug, corks finest blow lug and started hooking up. The rigs we use are running ledgers and pulleys. Keep at it and have a play around with different baits, rag, razor, peeler, lug all do the trick on different days. Fish into darkness or at dawn. Areas that tend to throw fish up for us are surf beaches close to rocks or the gulleys at the low tide mark. Go down to the beach on low tide and have a walk around, you'll see at the bottom of the slant of the beach there'll usually be a gulley in the sand before it flattens out and that's where the bass will often feed as the surf will wash all sorts of things down into it. Also if there's rocky areas with a bit of kelp growing, when there's a bit of movement in the water the bass will hang around there to prey on whatever gets disturbed by the swell.
