Casting with a 7ht mag reel

Lads I'm in dire need of some direction regarding the 7ht mag reel. I realise most of you will probably say go to a casting day but I would probably get too engrossed in the sport and my actual fishing would lose out I've no problem casting with a slosh 20 well over 100 yds but as soon as I try put any power....... And I mean over 70 yds with the 7th..... I almost always get a snap off normally)or a bad overrun It's really frustrating as I thought I was upgrading by shelling out full price for the reel But can't seem to operate it correctly. I've gone through all the motions ie... centre spool open all the way then back in and magnets on all the way etc. I would really appreciate if someone could put me right on this. Is it a reel for slow progressive casting or for powering out or am I missing something????????

To be honest i don't know much about the workings of the reels and what the problem might be. But i have been using a 7ht mag since i began using multiplier reels and have had no problems. A few over runs but mostly small and pickable and these were no doubt due to my own faults. Lads that are much better casters than me have had a go of my reel and punched out some seriously hard casts and didn't see any problems with it so the reel is capable. I know this isn't much help but just to put your mind at ease that you didn't waste your money. Hope you get it sorted.

how are you putting line on the reel?
i was having a similar issue a while back(except i was struggling to get 30yards ) with a reel i usually had no problems casting and it turned out to be how i had put the line on. i just left the spool on the floor and wound on, usually i used to put it in a bucket of water and ensure the line came off the spool how it went on. sure it couldnt make much difference i thought

go to a beach or a field and drop the lead and walk back 100 yards leaving line out, then retrieve it and try casting, nice and slow and see how that goes. if it seems to sort it then buy a line loader, got mine for €10 and no probs since and its easier than the bucket method

the system is designed to work on those reels when the spool spins faster the brakes come in ! so if the spool / lead doesnt reach a determined speed the brakes dont kick in ! thats why the other lads that cast the reel harder than you got the cast away fine , we would have to see your cast in the flesh to rule this possibilaty out ?

what line are you using some are too springy and will cause snap offs although most are due to not being smooth enough?

Best reel I have ever used by a mile.... Not sure what you are doing wrong but just a few small things..... Dont overfill it with line. If you keep the line level a couple of mm off the top rather than loading to the hilt the spool will rotate faster whilst releasing line allowing for your brakes to kick in. Dont be afraid of it either, keep your cast smooth, dont snatch at it, hit it and hit it hard, its not a reel for lobbing casts out, its designed to hit the horizon and it does, magnificently!

Lads some brilliant pointers there. Straight away 2 stand out. I think my line IS too soft for it and yes I've probably been a bit cautious with my casting. Going to load it up with F1, using the line loader that I got and go up to the pitch and let fly. After this it can only be down to human error. Again, thanks a million for the advice. I might post back up on this (if it goes well )
