When fishing at the weekend and taking a lump of weed off the line i noticed that the weed appeared to be lighting up in certain parts. When i looked at the weed under light there were lots of small worms (well more like caterpillars) lighting up.
Does anyone know what these are or if they are fairly common around the Dublin area..?

I encountered this whilst night fishing in Wexford . Saw it all in the weed glowing , didn't know it was worms , I thought it was a chemical reaction or something , I only saw it that one time

i think its everwhere
i've seen it a few times, north antrim coast, lough swilly and also over in west donegal beaches
its a form of luminescence that comes from alot of sea creatures. i've noticed different organisms with it and if you shake the weed that the light comes from you'll find it gets brighter.......good time to use the small lumo beads on your trace!!! (species dependant)
first time i saw it i had to check the mushrooms i just had in my sandwhich!!!!

Yeah Dave you better watch out for those mushrooms alright. Would make for an interesting session all the same
I know there are lots of things in the sea that 'glow in the dark' but I always thought it was associated with jelly fish and creatures of the deep...!
Seems to be fairly common place then or maybe we are just too close to Sellafield!
