hey up mate (a new member myself) but welcome to this site.... fished clogher a couple of weeks ago but not for macks, used rag and caught a couple of small pollock and an eel, have a look at the mack report in the shore report, and keep your eyes on the meets section offers of seats come up now and again, though some you would have to travel for... as for fishin in Clogher i found it very good throw one rod down with bait, and feather or float the other one, dont mind the odd seal that comes around theres normally two or three of them there havent had them bother me

Pado what type of rig are you using or is it just feathers with the rag you should tip off the rag with some mack to stop the rag coming of the hook or maybe a bit of elastic around the rag....

Hey Sparkey.....

I use a float cos bottom is very rocky and you can loose a lot of gear... I hook about two rag on, thread them up the line then double the end of the rag on the hook to stop falling off..however i will try an extra bit of mack at end on friday buddy!
I'll try some feathers if i see the lads catchin them tho?

what Ive notice in various areas and tides and weather condition Mackerl will have a perfered choice of colour for feathers, before casting out look down the pier wall and see if there is sprat or shrimp running about and match the feathers in with the local prey, i.e. if small silver sprat are running use small silver feathers etc. even the colour can change through out the day some spots i fish for mack in I'll start off using shrimp like feathers, then towards the evening chnage to red muppets or somethig similar

German Sprat lures were always very popular and successful at Clogherhead Pier in the past. There used to be lots of dabs also fishing from the side of the pier with e.g. mackerel bait, no distance required. However I haven't fished the pier since the recent work was completed.

Hi guys, new to site too.

Have done fair amount of mackerel fishing over last couple weeks from clogherhead few times, dungarvan n dun laoghaire tonight. Clogherhead very slow and few catching anything, mind have not fished there in couple weeks now. The cold seas seem to have kept mackerel out of most shores but note they are in last couple weeks. Dungarvan fished really good and dun laoghaire being good last were or so. Quite enough tonight only caught couple. In clogherhead I find rocks on back of the pier the best and I usually spin with feathers. No real issue with rocks.

Good luck with clogherhead next time out.

Hell, someone wiping off Lug worm/Rag on your jacket in the pitch black, another one putting a flashing RED LED dog collar on thier dog to run up and down the beach... but then again there is the crack, the jokes, the tea/coffee and not forgetting ......the fish!! Best ever!!

@ Al and Jordan... I have no idea!!! but on a pitch black beach seeing red dots moving over the sand at speed!!!!

Yep gonna hit Clogher today, wrong tide (Low water @ 6pmish) but its the only time i'll be able to get there, but hell If the water is to low I'll move some where near to it, the upside is its evening water is warm and there was a swell on last high tide 4.09 mtrs @ 12:21and only drops to .47 so there might be somethin feeding around that area ;)

Pado i find if you fish a 2 hook flapper with size 4's and plenty of beads you'l get a few flats, try the rocks over the dune's you might pick up a few pollock.
