Best advice I could give you is join a club and you will have plenty of guys to lend you a helping hand. Fishing is all about experience and is a learning curve a very enjoyable one. If you cant join a club buy magazines and do research on the net. Also dont be afraid to ask the guys at your bait and tackle shops what bait to use and what rigs and traces to use and what marks are fishing well. Most people interested in the sport will be more than happy to help, thats what I found when I started.

There is plenty of help on the net, plenty of tips on how to make your own rigs and gather your own bait. Plenty of research and practice and you will be flying in know time.

And always remember not to abuse the fish, Only keep what you need and always stick between the guidlines and laws for protecting fish ie( only 2 bass per angler in a 24 hour period and all bass under 40cm must be returned)

If we all stick to these rules the stocks will increase and we will all have more enjoyable days in the future battling with some of these silver monsters.

If your ever down near Tralee or North Kerry Pm me and we will wet the lines

You can learn a lot by reading the proper literature and side stepping a lot of the hype. Some very good articles here:

Hi djo22

Welcome to the site, based in Limerick as well and would generally fish the Clare direction, as the lads said a great start is to join a club, the closest club to the city would be the shannon sea angling club, you also have a new club that was being set up down the west limerick direction and i also think that there is a club in Ballybunion as well. Some excellent mark are to be had along the clare coast and the estuary, with many different speices to target.

Welcome to a great and very relaxing sport :D For me part of the fun was slowly learning the sport over the years. Never joined a club but read some great books [although they probably were for kids].

If you're tackle dealer is friendly they will be a great source of local knowledge - mine is a legend
