Advice needed (Bass)

Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:04 am

Hello everyone

I need some advice on catching bass, I'm fishing a mark which has deep gullies, rocks and weed. There is a sandy channel runs through the rocks and weed, and I can see the bass at certain times of the tide using these channels to get from one place to another. I've tried baits, Sand eel, Rag worm, Lug worm, Bluey, Mackerel, Squid and Crab. I've used Plugs, Spinners, and floats, but they seem deeply uninterested in my tactics. Can anyone give me any kind of advice which may lead to me actually catching one of these Bass.

All advice appreciated.

it looks like you have tried every method alright. the only advice i can give is that you dont give up maybe try to fish the location on a flooding tide just as at sun rise i always found two hours before the high tide fishes the best. but it could be different in your location.

all the best in any ways.

Are you sure the fish you see are not mullet?? Maybe try clear or flourocarbon hook snoods with small worm or crab baits I've never had a bass on a fish bait but I know they get them on sandeels in the south west, Razor could be good too all you can do is keep trying.

Thanks for the advice guys , I will give razor a try. Would they be heading towards a beach ,as there is one either end of the rocky outcrops i fish.

I would give a soft plastic a go, just drop it into the channel, they'd be in there looking for scraps in the flood tide and as Samo says try it at a high tide first or last light. Good luck.

on the chance that they are mullet try feedin them some bread just little bits and if they are takin the bread they are defo mullet! good fight off a mullet man if you hook one they go absolutly nuts!!!!! wrap up a small hook in the bread jus leavin the point free!!!

as for the bass top advice from the boys try different tidal times, im having the same kinda thing with a particular mark aswell, pure potential bass spot like and i know poeple have caught there before JUST NOT ME!!!!!!!!!!!

where abouts are ya fishing. . .i personaly dont believe ya will get bass from about cranfield, maybe kilkeel, right round the coast til portrush/portstewart direction. i like to fish for bass and there has only been a few places that i have caught them. they are also few and far between and ya could fish session after session without one.

i say ya just go and enjoy your fishing, and if ya get one, take it as a bonus

on the other hand, ya could give me a shout and we could arrange a trip down south where ya have a very good chance of bass. i'mm pm ya my number

By the sound of it it would sound like mullet so as the lads said try the bread and see what happens then you will know for sure
