It is probably moisture ingression between the high modulus fibers on the spigot joint this can swell up the spigot enough to lock the rod, try drying the rod with a hairdryer on low heat for a while, get some resin on your hands or some rubber grip and twist the rod as you are pulling it.
A question for you? was the rod assembled when it was raining or the spigot wet.?

I read here before that putting a bag of frozen peas or suchlike on the joint for a few min works wonders.

Heard of this one before seperating a rod behind your back http://www.bishfish.co.nz/bishonfish/20 ... oints.html

Found these tips on the web also.....

No 1 ...GET A HAIR DRYER AND APPLY HEAT AT BIGGER END AND AFTER A FEW MINUTES LETS IT COOL A LITTLE THEN PULL AND TWIST THEN IT WILL COME APART.NOW IF EVER A 2 PIECE ROD BECOMES TOO LOOSE COAT FEMALE END WITH BEE'S WAX AND THAT WILL GIVE A TIGHT FIT.HAVE USED BOTH WITH 100% RESULTS

No 2...Ice cube on the inside piece below the joint , hot facecloth over the outside part of the joint. get the rubber jar openers and after the ice and hot water simultaniously for about two minutes , pull and twist at same time. I wouldn't use a wrench. You could cause a torsional failure. A permanent one piece is better than a broken two piece!

No 3.... What type of connection.meaning, metal to metal....if so, the ice should help. If not metal, go the opposite way...apply heat. NOT TOO MUCH of course .....

GOOD LUCK...
