im heading down that direction tomorrow after work to stay with the better halfs family down there and the 6 yr old neice and myself wouldnt mind a run out in carlingford on sat to do a bit of fishing. i was wondering whether theres any shops handy that i could get some bait at as i dont want to lug the frozen stuff or worms down into someone elses house.
also is the fishing up to much there? i can use lures etc but she cant so i want her to catch something if possible

There is a tackle shop in Newry called Smyth Angling & Outdoors Superstore. You could contact them prior to going to see if they have what you need or call in on the way and have a look about. Their phone number is: (02830) 252332 and the shop is located on Kildare Street, Newry.

Hi polmac, i'm from newry and the only bait you can get here is mackeral from the fishmonger, i have to travel to dundalk to dig lug or drogheda to buy rags. The fishing in this area is terrible, i usually travel south of dundalk or north of larne for a days fishing.. The only thing going on near carlingford at the minute is mackie bashing in greenore, even thats not great at the minute. You could try balligan head or shillinghill beach for sea trout or a bass that got lost. If you want to travel a little bit further south gimmie a pm, and i will give you a few pointers. Hopes this helps....

cheers mate. ah its just for a bit of craic whilst im down that length to be honest, if its a case of throwing off the harbour or going on round for the mack bashing then i can take her there for a bot of entertainment. its just so that she can catch something or if i do then let her reel it in to see a fish.
where in greenore would you go, i looked at google earth there and theres a car park up next the harbour area.

Hi Polmac, mackie bashing will probably be the best at greenore, go the carpark in front of the harbour docks, when you go down the steps stay to the right about 20-30yrs and cast from there. If you stay level with the steps its easy to get snagged on a lot of rocks that ye wont see at high tide. I doubt that ye will get fishing of the harbour at this time of year as there is a lot of kayakers in the water.. Good luck with the trip anyway, even if its only a mackie for the wee one...
