WEED WATCH - Dublin, Meath & Louth

Postby MAC » Wed Jul 13, 2011 1:56 pm

Let's try to help each other out with this one!

If you are fishing an area that is full of weed or clean please post here. We are not looking for the mark you are fishing, but if you wan't to include it, please feel free. A General area like North Wexford or East Cork will be perfect. I am hoping that these stickies will become and invaluable tool for guys going fishing. For the guys not luckly enough to live close to their favourite beach this could be priceless. It takes a lot of effort to get the tackle ready, Sort the bait and then the drive to your favoutire mark only to find it unfishable due to weed. You log onto SAI the next day and find out that an area 20 mins was fine. :( How many sessions have been ruined this way!

Let's try get some up to date info on these threads to help guys plan a trip.

Sutton, Dublin Bay side almost unfishable last night due to floating weed on the flow. Had to use weedless jellies!

Went fishing today on a beach south of dundalk and it was unfishable. gave up after a couple of casts, has to drag the line in by hand there was that much weed. Excellent idea with the weed watch by the way...

Fished a North dublin beach over low water last night. Weed in close and clear at distance. The weed in close cleared as the tide began to push in

Dollymount Beach sutton end and whole of Bull Island thick weed, 1pm-4pm gave up as even with the 15' beachcaster was getting weed bound at a full cast....and false reads on the line as weed washed against it!! grrrrr someone asked to describe it......for lure fishing... thick as creamy veg soup! the waves were just sloshing with the stuff and it was close to shore and a good distance out as well, very few lures would get through it sad to report! needless to say drew a blank!

I'd say it's probably the same! I fished a North Dublin beach last night and it was full of weed, only gave it 3 casts and headed off!

Just back from Poolbeg.. Beach side Full of weed... tried powerful distance cast and was the same dense stuff :( Port side no weed as it is being flushed out by the Liffey very few mackrel about managed to get one... weed is possible to get through though using a weedless lure but still the line got covered :( cant see any self respecting bass being in the likes of that mess though!! ) lol
