Just wondering whats the best way to record a specimen fish and is it worth recording them as if I caught one of a species and it was a specimen I would be happy with the one why do some people go on about all the specimen fish they record as iv caught plenty of big fish and just put them back again without measuring the size or weight of the fish id find it more fun to land them and put them straight back again maybe take the odd photo I suppose I dont conform to the norm much lol if I found a good hole full of fish id hardly broadcast it and let people know where they are but share it with people I fish with now and again as its hard enough work finding a good spot for it to be pillaged and fished out

I usually just get a good pic, measure it and weigh it then release it..(or keep for the table depending)
And if its a specimen I'm happy in the knowledge that i got one regardless of the people who say it doesn't look like a specimen.. its even better when there is someone to witness it too..

If you would like to record a specimen you will need a certified scales, photoss of the fish and a witness. If you would like to record it just for yourself, then just get the scales certified and then you can be 100% sure. You would be surprised at how far a scales can be off after a few seasons abuse.
As for giving away the mark. If you read through the book there are planty of guys giving generic marks, ie Cork Harbour or Red Bay. There are also a few people totally naming the wrong venue, just so a venue wont the pillaged.
I have been trying more and more for specimen fish over the last couple of years and have to say the thrill of chasing the bigger of the species is a real challange and offers great reward.
