Hi there lads.
I've just come back from a three month stay in Germany where the only fishing I could get was after pike. So after a 3 month abstinence, my longest ever, I am finally going to get the chance to grab the beechcasters and head for some shore fishing. I usually do my shore fishing around the Killary in Galway or around Dublin and the Wicklow beaches. However, at the mo I am in Galway City and am heading down towards Clare for a days fishing on Saturday and I have never fished in Clare at all and was wondering if anybody could help me out by telling me of a good shore mark that is fishing well at the moment. Any info would be great either on the forum or in a pm.
Tight lines,
Conor

hey Conor,
i can suggest plenty of southern clare marks, none of which are producing much at the moment though!!!!
up in north clare there are plenty of good marks too. around Ballyrynne(sp?) you have all the rock marks, miles and miles of easily accessible rock marks that can produce some excellent fishing. problem is i'm not too familar with the venues, so it's pointless for me to raamble on about them telling you stories about shite! but i do know lads have had some quality mixes catches of ray, huss, conger, pollack, mackeral, all sorts really. normal ledgering and spinning methods are the favoured. to get there, head to ballyvaughon and follow the coast road south til you find a spot you like the look of! sorry about the vagueness of the post, i just don't know whole lot about the place...

Why not have a try for the mullet in the Galway Docks? Was down there last week in Jury's for a few days and just out the front, beside the Spanish/Blind Arches, there were scores of mullet. Place was full of them. There was even a seal herding them into lumps and had them flinging themselves out of the water in shoals.
If using bread, ducks and swans could be a problem though, and to avoid the crowds, early morning is probably your best bet... Given the state a lot of the West Coast is in as far as I can gather, it's probably your best chance of catching anything......

I was up in North Clare two weeks ago and it was impossible to get past the mackeral. Went up to 4/0 hooks and was still catching them as soon as the hooks went into the water. There wasn't much crack in it (at least in Dunlickey you get the excitement of standing on a cliff with 6 ounce weights whizzing by.)

Hey lads, thanks for your replies. We are going to fish around Blackhead tomorrow. I will post a report regarding the trip but it will be next week as I will be away for a few days from Sunday.
Just to let you know, I went digging lug in Galway (Ballyloughran I think the name is or something like that) in a small strand in the city. If you leave the centre and are heading out of the town towards the Dublin Road there is a dairy plant on the right and besides this a road that leads to a small beach. We used to get lug there fairly handy the last couple of years but there was none to be had today with very little casts, the digging of which only produced tiny worms. The red tide must have killed the lot. We also found quite a few dead crabs lying around the place. So dont waste your time looking for lug there.
