The lure only competition; researchers wanted!

Fri Sep 02, 2005 10:01 pm

Hi

As you know I have promised to organise a lure only competition (for pluggers, spinners and SWFFers) and I have just been informed by her good self that I can take myself off next Sunday, eh 10th September.

Thought I would head off to Sligo and specifically Streedagh Point which a lot of people seem to have difficulty in finding. All assistance welcome...

Weather will be a key issue so I will plan a few options around the NW - this will be an all day event, possibly trying out a few locations...

Is this event open to allcomers or SAI club members only? I'm over in Dromard Sligo this week and would be interested in joining in/learning a few things (and losing a few of my lures  ). The sunday is the 11th and high tide is 11.30am'ish. What time are you planning to meet?

I've been to Streedagh before although only for a stroll. There's a largish car park at the southern end of the strand. Streedagh is fairly well signposted from the main coast road.

If you can post further details about the meet and whether it's happening, I should be able to check back before the weekend (limited net access). I can get a lift to streedagh but transport to other venues in the nw would be tricky. I'm happy to contribute to petrol

Anyhow, let me know if it's a goer.

Cheers.

Hi

At this stage, we plan to meet in Grange, say around 10 am.

That would give us 20 mins for the drive to the causeway - its years (many!) since I have been there and its not the beach that I am looking for but rather the boulder causeway that runs north from the beach; if you have local knowlege that would be even better! Initially I am planning to fish it on the up and donw around high water, maybe retreating to the point on the ebb to try for the tope that are known to frequent the area, especially if we have a few fresh mackerel for bait!

After that I thought we could hit Aughris head on the way back to Mayo...
PM me if you want to join the crew and I will send you my mobile

Thanks

Kieran , is it Sat 10th or Sun 11th ? I should be fine for Sunday, and may have Saturday sorted for a babysitter, so either way should be fine.

I was wondering why I was only getting very small pollack. Was fishing up the coast in sligo, streedagh. How log could it take to recover from this ""Red Tide""?

That don't sound good....."

I was fishing the boat on Tuesday and had some excellent pollock on twisters and the water around the boat was orange from a plankton bloom. Didn't bother the mackerel either.
