Hi Will,

The Shannons fishing quite well. Mackerel baits are the only way to go. Plenty of good thornbacks and the odd huss. Small caongers to be caught too.

Where abouts have you been fishing Chris?

I've mostly been fishing from the lighthouse near Kilteery Pier. Funnily I've found that I was getting no bites on fresh Mackerel and it was only when I switched to Frozen that I started catching. It has been possible to catch mackerel from Kilteery Pier of late. There all small Joey mackerel and small feathers are best to catch them. A whole one of these on a pennell has accounted fo some huss but always at range.

I find Mackerel wrapped in squid better here than on its own. Keeps bait on your hook for that much longer. From my experience Kilteery must be the worst place in the Estuary for crabs.

Are the huss any size. I have got huss here on whole squid but nothing huge

It's true about the crabs there's millions of them. No big huss but I've heard that if you use a pike pop up to keep the bait off the bottom it helps keep the crabs away and is good for huss, Never tried it myself just one of these rumours you hear.
With the amount of crab there I've always found it amazing that everytime I've fished with crab there I've blanked. I've often noticed the Thornies are full of small hardbacks I mght try them next time.

Mackerel mainly joeys are being caught from Glin as well and are only a few feet out. I was out fishing an Estuary mark last night and got 10 ray for four hours fishing along with the usual dogs and small straps.
