waterford dunmore fishing

just wondering if anyone can help me,all i seem to catch is dogfish,i use a simple single hook trace,and use well lately mackerel,caus its easy to get a hold of a few,without the hastle of getting bait. But all i get is dogfish,any tips for perhaps something different,maybe float fishing,from the flat rocks,r that?anything at all,to maybe bring in something different,seing it on the hook as i hawl it in,instead of thinking,not these guys again!lol.any suggestions,i fish usually around dunmore,that areathanks for any information at all.i only hav a 9 foot rod,but can can cast a bit,fair enough not going to hook a trawler r anything!lol.any tips suggestions,anything at all!cheers lads!

try float fishing with crab at the flat rocks for Wrasse and Pollack.

Also the end of the pier with small hooks and Mackeral can giv eplenty of Dabs and Pouting etc, nothing big but plenty there to keep you busy.

There are alos plenty of Mullet in the harbour but difficult to catch.

At the back of the Storm Wall in the harbour there is an outlet pipe which attracts all sorts over high water and good sport can be had with float fished Rag or Mack strips.

You can pick up Wrasse under your feet at the flat rocks in Dunmore, especially the deep cleft near the no 5 mark, from mid-water up.

There are some decent congers there too so a big mackerel bait (heads are good) on a 6/0 with 150 lb mono trace should get them interested.

The bait you are using is a problem. I have had codling, coalfish and flatfish including plaice from 60-80 yards out but not using mackerel. Lugworm is ideal, even the shop bought stuff - try the Waterford Angling Centre opposite Woodies.

You can also pick up big 3 bearded rockling under your feet but only in very stormy conditions when the water is very coloured, and these will take a plain mackerel bait. The trick is keeping the baits on the bottom!

I have had mullet, shorthorn scuplin and other species there over the years... have you considered spinning with a jellyworm for the pollack?

thanks guys for all the advice,i felt myself that the flat rocks would be a haven for all types of fish,just tryn 2 catch them is the problem,but hence why fishing is so enjoyable!thanks again guys!u say spinning a jelly worm?wat colour,they say white orange or red for pollack,etc?do i let it near the bottom,or near the top??also,how far out do the rock outcrops be,whats beyond the rocks?sand r wat??thanx lads!

once you get out around 60-70yards you get on to sand.try behind the peir wall for good rockling,wress,small poulting coalie and doggiesand conger.very snaggy ground tho so use rotton bottom single hook and bring loads of leads best near lighthouse side.try rag worm easly dug at creadon beach.
