Frozen peeler actually produces a lot better for me. They also like a bit of squid and hermet crab

2 or 3 large lug on each hook works well for me!

Whole squid, lug and squid cocktails or raw crevettes (prawns) work for us.

King rag presented on a pennel rig is the next best bait to peeler in my opinion - had a few sessions last year where I fished with both baits, one one each rod and there was no noticable difference in catch rates.

They will take lug.

Hermit crab is supposed to be a killer bait for them, but difficult to get hold of.

I'm told squid is a deadly bait off the boat, but never heard of much success on it from the shore.

So all in all they will pretty much take any bait if they are in the mood it seems,Certain baits might pick out the better fish alright but dont think you're not in with a chance of a hook up if you cant get peeler. My Pb smoothie was on rag !

Its also been said that if you do manage to hook one make sure to get a bait back in the water as soon as possible because , as a pack hunter, if the food is gone they will move on soon enough and your smoothie session will be over for the night.....or so 'they' say anyway

Spot on! No fish will pass a prize bait in order to find a better feed! Try all baits and enjoy the running line when it happens!
No need to go mad buying expensive perishable baits!

If you are going to target them seriously try and get your hands on some peelers or soft crab although the other baits might catch them they do prefer crab and you will have more success.

Thats not particularly true, but your right abnout having another trace/bait ready to get it fishing again asap.

They tend to patrol up and down a stretch of beach.

In my experience you can get a mad 10-20 mins when every rod in the water is getting bites, then it can go quite for an hour or so, then the rods go again, then quite again, etc, etc.
