Kilty Catcher on a Beachcaster

Hey lads,

Looking for a bit of advice: I don't have a light/Spinning rod + reel and am wondering if I'm wasting my time trying to fish a (Red) Kilty Catcher on my Beachcaster, using heavy tackle (Shock Leader attached etc.) ? I'm down in Kerry for a few days over the weekend and won't be able to grab any bait, so thinking of spinning a Kilty I recently purchased for as long as my arms can handle it !!.

I've read on another thread that the way to fish them is to reel at different speeds - fast for a bit, then slow and so on. Is this correct ?

I also bought a spoon (Blue Holo) and another "sand eel" type lure that looks a bit like Kilty, except it's Silver Holo. Rubbish ?

Any advice welcome.

I think you would be pretty much wasting your time.. A beachcaster is far too heavy and doesn't have the action required to use the lures properly.. Its hard enough casting a beach rod once every twenty min never mind every two min ... My advise would be to try bring bait wit you something like peeler crab that wil last two or three days

i tried spinning with a 12ft carp rod once
i though the rod was pretty light up until then but after 20 minutes my arms were knackered.
i would suggest bait like yer man says or a different rod

What if ya could get your hands on a heavy jig head and some jelly worms? Lash it out and then a very very very slow retrieve?

Otherwise bait! Sure ya could pick up some Mack/Shellfish in the local mongers.
