Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has been fishing the Westport or Clifden areas lately? I am hoping to head to Westport next week for a couple of days fishing. Any info and tips would be greatly appreciated. Also does anyone know if there are any Mackerel about yey?
I called to Doug in A Shore Thing last year and he put me on some great marks so I might drop into him again while I'm there.
Cheers
Jonathon

hi jonathan welcome to the site I fish all around clifden and south of westport I can pm you directions to a few marks if you want or if you are fishing thurs/fri/sat I might be able to show you to the marks
fishing was quite but has picked up a lot over the last few days so you should have a good chance of a few fish
what species of fish would you like to target?

Cheers, some really great info on the site here.. was reading through various posts last night and picked up a few handy tips.
I wont be heading across until Monday or Tuesday so if you could send me a PM with a few marks that would be great.
As regards species I'm not fussy, it will be just myself and my younger brother heading out, probably 1 rod each (were both pretty much beginners). We plan on camping so a couple of Mack and maybe some Pollock would be tasty for dinner! I would also love to catch Ray as I haven't had any success with them before.
Thanks again!

I might give it a look so, haven't caught a Sea Trout before either, would you know what sort of ground is usually best for them? and do you find any particular rigs or spinners work best?

there is a bit of surge on in cross the last night so be careful very strong rip currents around that area

Hi. Was fishing on white strand in louisburgh las sunday and drew a complete blank. Fishing for 6 hrs and nothing. Was big tides so maybe that had something to do with it. First 2 hrs we were pulling in a lot of weed. Goin to give it a go again this weekend though. Bass, flounder, turbot, sea trout been caught though....or so i hear!!

Hi sorry only getting back to you now, I fished for two half days around the Little Killary area, weather was fantastic and we landed a few fish. I got 4 mackerel on feathers the first evening along with 4 dogs. The 2nd day was a lot slower with no macks but again 4 or 5 dogfish. Lovely area to fish and stay. I also tried some beach fishing at night but the surf was a bit to strong and I couldn't cast far enough to get past the heavy tide.
I could PM you some marks given to me by some of the members (thanks again lads great info) here if you like.
Cheers
Jonathon
