Fish ID

Sat Apr 02, 2011 3:33 pm

I came across this fish last week in a rock pool in Bantry Bay. The pool would usually contain fresh water as its well over 4 feet above the highest tide mark and over 15 feet back from the waters edge. The big tides the week before this wouldn't have flooded the pool but the odd wave would have reached it.The size of the fish varied slightly but most of them were about 4cm but a few were a bit bigger. I thought it might be a juvenile scad, can anyone identify it?

Thanks for the replies. I had never come across a 3 Spinned Stickleback in the sea Before before this. I did see hundreds of stickle backs swim uptream on their bellies over a small weir in a river on the east coast over 25 years ago. They were red in colour and I presume this was part of a spawning run.

I do feel about 106 in the mornings but 2 pots of coffee seems to take years off me.
