Hi all i am hopeing to catch a few smoothhounds this summer and was just woundering where would be better wicklow where i have a few marks i think should hold a few hounds

or wexford have one spot there could find one or two not looking for anyones marks just a rough guide on where and what rigs should work?

Hey Darragh if you fish the beach at Courtown you'll get them.

Pennell rigs or 2 hook flappers with heavy snoods. i use size 2/0 hooks and they work fine you could use bigger if you wanted.
Crab and rag worm i find work best as baits. Both Wicklow and Wexford beaches will always throw up good smoothhounds in season.

ringsend is very good for them all along were the lighthouse is,i had some big ones last year

but it might be a bit early,give it a few weeks,pully rig or 2 flap for me and crab a must for bait

The beach, behind the greystone golf club, that will do the job ,
killcole or newcastle area couple of spot i can recomend, never tried for tope me self but heard waaw point from couple of good anglers about it ,I will go for it this summer too.

You can day them anytime really as the work up and down the coast as the tide is rising. I find the most productive time is a rising tide at dusk though. Poolbeg was fishing from early May last year but was very thin compared to the year before. They will hang around the South East coast all summer though.
