Razors in the west.

Wed Feb 23, 2011 6:07 pm

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has collected any razorfish on the west coast? Based in Galway was gonna go look on the next neap tides armed with a salt solution, must be some to be found on some of the sandy shores.

Cheers
Dave

I had 2 goes at them last weekend, first with the salt, they were very slow to come out, like 20 mins later as the tide just turned, 2nd day I used a strong salt solution in a garden sprayer, same again very slow, I got about 20 using the grab and pull way, hands are a bit sore just now though! it's not a bad way though once you home in on the slight depression, ended up with just over 70 for the 2 trips, minus 2 that went in the frying pan, didn't rate them at all! give me squid anyday.

The salt/ salt soultion works best on days when the sand has a chance to dry out. It does take some time to take effect. I generally salt an area of 40-50 square meters then I go closer to the tide line an dig them. Check you salting every 10 -15 minutes and make sure the gulls aren't stealing your razors. Best of both worlds then.
