Advice on marks around Lahinch

I'm probably going to be down here for a weekend sometime over the next three weeks.

Has anyone any thoughts on how area's such as Doolin, lahinch strand, and Fanore are fishing? Any advice on baits and tactics to use? I assume that the beaches will be infested with surfers, so night time will be our best time?

We are specifically targeting bass, however we might try Ballyreen/Blackhead again in the hope of a ray or two.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Try the liittle shingle beach a mile south of Lahinch on the Kilkee road, the entrance is marked by an italianate house (beautifully restored) I think it is called Cregg, it produces flounder in front of the wee stream on calm days and bass when the surf is running and it usually does not get surfers as they prefer the bigger breakers in Lahinch. Crab is the best option but lugworm and curiously razorfish (none in the area for collection) are known to work.

All access and parking is used by travelers. I wish my 'culture' gave me a free beach house.....rant over

Leahinch can have some great fishing this time of year and there should be some bass about lug worm seems to take the bass casting around the 3rd breaker should suffice.

If you have distance casting potential use a one up one down clipped down trace with flattie hooks and hit it as far as you can and wading out will help if its safe the farther the better, with lug tipped with mackerel you should pick up few nice place not many know this but I had some great fish using this technique.

2 big lug worms on a size 3o hook on a simple paternoster is what i recomend for the bass.

Sand eel will take the bigger ones but I rarely caught Bass on sand eels.

You will also encounter dog fish with the sand eel and some times during the winter your plagued with them 3 at a time.

There is also get some whiting from this beach at night even this time of year.

If your fish Cregg beach dont cast in too close during high tide as all the stones seem to wash in and out and sometimes your trace gets covered and you end up having to break the line to free it as the lead is embedded under the stones.

I know a great rock mark only a 10 min drive from Leahinch but you will have to private message me for that mark as I know the owners with access to the land and they wouldnt appreciate me advertising here as some people go down fishing there and end up leaving a lot of rubbish around.

Just befor I finish I think Spanish Point is a better beach for fishing than Leahinch...................................

Fanore beach fishes well for bass so if you are in Ballyreen then worth your while going there. You fish on the opposite side of the beach to the surfers so usually there is no clash.
This weekend they were hauling in mackeral at the flats, especially by the life buoy. I fished with mackeral as bait there for a while but only caught some small gurnards.
I was in Seafield during the week and the beach where you dig the lugworm was alive with sprat, mullet, flatfish and crabs. Might be worth a shot.
Spanish point is another nearby beach that fishes well for bass. People usually fish under the entrance to the golf club so again you are away from the surfers but it is a fairly busy beach (but not as bad as Lahinch) during the summer.
