Daytime Fishing

Thu Feb 10, 2011 12:15 am

Hi all
Just a quick question as i am new to relatively new to beach and winter time fishing(mostly just lure fishing from rock and pier marks during the summer)and was wondering is their any point in fishing beaches during daylight hours..........
Been out a few times with very limited results during the day and from looking at reports if seems to be the mostly nighttime fishing which is productive. With work and family commitments if is not that feasible for me to do this at the moment........
Have fished a few east cork beaches this winter with peeler, lug and razor and as i say very limited results so its one of two things ,timing or i cant fish or maybe both
Many thanks

hey tuborg.are u called that after the tins of beer.6 cans for 7 yoyos   .theres no doubt that nite is the best as fish will venture more and feed better at nite.also more fish move in to feed.i find daytime thou can be hit and miss but if u get it right it can be as productive.knowing ur beach is vital.where to fish it and time of tides that produce.one of my local beaches here will produce 2 hours before low and an hour on the filling tide then it goes dead for a while till near high water.if ur looking for seatrout the daytime is ur only time and the turn of tides are vital aswell as dusk and dawn.if ur after bass during the day ur probably best plugging/spinning.next time u shud try a flapper with a rolling weight and let it cover ground in the surf.i do this alot during the day and pick up some really nice flats like flounder, dabs and turbos.wish u luck next trip

While often night is best, I have had my best times fishing during the day. Once the water warms up a little, you can get good pollack with jelly worms and, of course, there are mackerel who actually hunt by sight, so you can't catch them at night - pound for pound probably the best fighting fish in Irish waters. In fact, I think it's more comfortable, warmer, more sociable and in general a nicer pastime when fishing during the day. In fact, I'm trying to justify why I ever fish at night!

Can't see anything wrong with your choice of bait

Re, East Cork beaches all the Garryvoe beaches are pure night venues.
Ballybrannigan and Ballycrooneen fish fairly good during daylight. TBH they are the only 2 beaches in East Cork I'll fish in daylight

Youghal beach can produce fish during daylight but is fish best into dusk and darkness.

Fished Youghal beach Monday night and had a cracker of a session there.
Planning to head back there again Thursday night.

I went to Ballybrannigan to night and I reckon there is about 4' of sand washed off the beach.
About ¾ of the beach is showing rock.

I've seen it worse.
