Ive been fishing from the beach and pier so far and using my 13ft beach caster.

It depends on the type of ground you're fishing onto, if you're fishing onto sand an ordinary Beachcaster will suffice, fishing into rocky sea bed with kelp will require something a little beefier. A lot of the rock marks when you cast a short distance you're onto to sand, most of the rough stuff is in close it's only when reeling in slowly sometimes you get snagged.

mostly use the 13ft beachcaster of the rocks meself you can get distance if ye need and when the macks are around its a must!...also have a 9/10ft pier rod and a 'sturdy' Shimano reel which use for close range bottom and float fishing great for hauling up wrasse or big pollock...ye will find tis not the rod that take's the punishment, its the reel, after havin the cog's stripped of by a 4lb wrasse got meself a decent reel... :)

i think the pier rod sounds like what tim looking for.

my problem with the beach caster is the weight when holding it for long periods (if i cant get my stand up on the rocks)

what price would ya pay for a average one
