Fishing for kids?

Any advice for safe spots for kids that have access to deep water in the east cork area?

Beaches are fine for me as I can cast, but for a 7yr old its not so good, casting distance is a problem.
Peirs are great but a lot of them are just pretty unsafe / open (knockadoon / cobh / yougal) and the problem with certain railings are that kids like playing in them.... (promenade cobh / breakwater ballycotton).
Rocks are fine in some places but the access to them can be precarious (any bit of coast!).
I've checked nautical charts and there does not really seem to be any steep beaches either.

Myself casting for the youngster is not really the best way either. As I want her to learn and she wants to do it all herself.

If anyone fishes with a young child (girl in my case) I've be grateful to any advice.

I know its not sea anging but i found that course fishing in Inniscarra or even the lough is great for the basics for kids and relatively safe. As soon as she learns the basic safety tips, then you can gauge when and where would be ok for her.

hey i take my boys out this time of year i find its dark earlier and better fishn for them as the fish seem to come in quite far in the shore break sometimes only 10 or 20 feet out, its within their casting range and much safer than piers and rocks as their only 8, i bought them a spining rod and took the hooks off an old lure to safely get them started, heres the last fish they caught,

Great advice guys, thanks a lot (and to the PM's too!).
Yep we go to local beaches and catch a few flatties alright I just wanted a little variety.

I have a few marks now that hopefully should show them a few more species. Will post some results if I get any.

Cheers

mate, don't worry about casting distance from the shore as the flatties are at your feet. when i was a kid i used 6ft spinning rod with 1oz weights everywhere, lol, and caught stacks. my sister did the same when she was a kid and often outfished me and my dad. to be honest loads of good sized flatties have been caught a few feet out. we used to make rod rests out of branches etc, but a smallish spike rest or holding the rod in their hands if surf is rough will be fine
