Mackeral's a good bait any time of the year. But get yourself some lug, too.

Thanks for your your feedback
don't suppose you know where you could buy lugworm / ragworm around donegal / letterkenny area?
Is that dried ragworm totally useless ?
hoping to get out fishing this weekend either downings or Portnablagh area

You can dig lug at Dunfanaghy, but they'll be down deep at this time of year.
Dunno anything about dried rag.
John McLaughlin in the Donegal Angling Center/Swilly Flies & Angling outside Letterkenny can supply bait, but I think he needs a 5 day notice for worms so he can organise his diggers. Usually, he has a good supply of frozen baits.
Whereabouts are you based?

Aye ,based in Letterkenny
Forgot about johns place ,must check him out , I know Amazonas don't stock any at this time of year, Think i'll bring a pitchfork with me and try the frozen stuff as well.
It's hard to beat the fresh lugworm though
Hear there a lot of cod caught from the boats lately.
Suppose i'll try a few different methods
thanks again
