I put up posts asking about the best time of year to catch flounder and people are saying different things. some people are saying there are flounder this time of year others are saying you wont catch them now cause its spawing time. im confused so could someone tell when you catch them and if you get them this time of year around Dublin.

Flouder are like brian says found all year round, i dont know much about the north side but killiney, greystones etc will throw up a few on the southside with fresh and frozen lug tipped with mackerel a good reliable bait for them.

Best time if year for BIG flounders is from late Nov-Jan in the estuaries.
Best time of year for good numbers of Flounders in estuaries is usually April & May.
Flounders will be on the beaches all year round with the best time for Large numbers being from November to January.
From January - March they will thin out as its deep water time for spawning leaving mostly small fish on the beaches.

Plenty of advice on how to catch flounder if you have a search through the forums. i wouldnt place too much faith in what is written on the link posted above, its somewhat outdated at this stage. Small surfs, neat and tidy worm and fish baits on smallish hooks fished in the first 20 to 30 yards on a rolling lead will find you large numbers of fish as a general rule. Crab is your only bait for numbers if you fish the estuaries.

Tried that one before Roger.. Probably the worst fish I've had. Flesh just wasn't firm at all. Soggy cardboard mate... Hope you have better luck.

Loads of flounder on Cork beaches last night, double or treble shots on every cast. Biggest however a paltry 25cms or so. The big ones have more pressing issues to attend to it would seem.
