Ron Thompson Power Lite Chemical Light

Does anyone else use these for night fishing?
What way do you attach them to the rod, I don't mean using tape!

From what I've read, putting tape etc on the tip of your rod is likely to cause it to snap off sooner or later. I have a small led torch I can clip onto my rod rest and shine on the rod tips. Cost about ?15 if I remember. A safer solution, I think.

It comes with a small bit of plastic tube, about the same size and its suppose to clip onto the top of the rod? Im not sure how its suppose to work....

I think the bit of tubing is for attaching it to a line - feed line trough tube, ram light into tube alonside lightstick - is it not intended as an attractant for beside the hook rather than as a tip light? I might have this all wrong...

You might not be far wrong, i think its intended for float fishing at night, line through the tube,stuff light stick into tube and stick tube onto top of the float!

Might do you for fishing at night so. Planning to tackle a few of your local conger, then?

No not planning to tackle them yet for a while, must invest in some gear first, not properly equiped yet. Will give them a lash fairly soon though, theres some big conger down there, so im told!

i haven't seen the ron thompson design, but from what ye're desribin it sounds very similar to the other chemical lights on the market.....if you want to use it at night as an indicator on the rod, try this.
take the rubber tube. and cut a line through it about half the length of the tube. slide the cut section over the tip so it encases the tip. now whip it on or glue it. you can slide the light in and out now as you please.
the handiest thing of the whole lot though is as sandman suggested, and strap a torch to the tripod, or get a head torch

Selotape is the answer to the problem. If you tape the light on properly so there is nothing for the line to catch on then there wont be a problem. The problem only arises when there is something sticking out that the line can catch on.

you're only talking about a halh inch or less, same kind of length of whipping as any rod ring, and they don't break rods. the key is keep it small and compact, there is no need to lash on half a spool of thread, the only real concern is the line may tangle on it before the cast and cause the rod to snap, so be aware of it. i have a similar set up on a few quiver tips used for coarse fishing, never had a breakage, and those things have a half ounce test curve!

According to what I hear, taping stuff to the tip doesn't allow the rod to flex properly, stressing the rod where the tape is on it, eventually causing it to snap.

Putting selotape which is a flexible tape on a rod wont do any harm, its not a case of putting on a whole spool, just enough to hold the light in place without the chance of it coming off. there is more chance of damage if while casting the line can catch in a holder or something with an edge. Hey this is just an opinion, I have been away from this game for a while but started back at the end of last year and most of my fishing is at night as I feel the day time is not nearly as productive. I have not had one problem using this method. Good luck one way or the other but personally I would avoid whipping and especially glueing anything to the tip of my rod.
