I'm just wondering are there any fish around there. I know the usual areas around youghal for cod and the likes. But i'm restricted to very short casts. I sprained one of my vertebrae and twisted my pelvis in work so i can't cast far at all without being in severe pain. I've decided i'm not giving up on the fishing so i'm trying to bump up the species list with close casts instead of aiming for large fish which will be out of my reach. I fished ballycotton pier last night which suited fine as there's no cast needed. If anyone can think of a better area to fish in my current state i'm open to suggestions. Youghal quay was just something that popped into my mind. Thanks very much for reading and any replies are much appreciated.
Tight lines,
Evan

Should be plenty of small codling, coalfish and whiting from Ardmore Pier (well there was last winter). It usually throws up a few surprises too.

Thanks for the help lads. I've got a bit of info for a few areas down that way now so i think i should be able to keep myself occupied with those marks till my back is strong enough to get back to the usual haunts. All the helpful tips are much appreciated and i'll let ye know how i get on.

Hi Evan, yes there are presently plenty of fish to be had along the keys in youghal. the latest report ( today) is that the town park fished very well last night, however the channel is some 30 yd from the wall. the slip in the town has on the seaward side steel pillars and steps to the water, a line dropped streght down will usualy produce but there are big conger down there which may not be the sport you need right now. Codling are being taken freom the bridge upstream of Youghal, no casting required. did you try the backward cast ? stand with your back to the sea, lead on the ground, rod at 10 o clock and apply power overhead. this will take a bit of practice and to start with vertical lift may exceed distance, but this elliminates the twisting of the spine. Hope you get the results you deserve. Fionn

I think a conger might be the end of me if i hooked one of them but i'll try the quays for them when i'm all fixed up again. I used to use the back cast but now i just step into the cast and it doesn't put too much pressure on the back. It doesn't look too graceful and i can't get my usual distance (which isn't much to start with) but i'm catching a few fish regardless. I've had a few replies and helpful pms which i'm very greatful for but it will take me a few months to get through all the marks that have been suggested. Thank god for this website and all the generous members.

Thanks denis. Not feeling too bad at this stage. One more trip to the chiropractor and i should be good as new hopefully. Then I'll be back down to youghal to do some serious fishing.
