Hi,
I am wondering where to fish in Sligo for flatfish as I have never caught one. I was thinking about strandhilll or streedagh but do not know tactics, time or anything like that. Would like somewhere where id have a fish within an hour.
Many Thanks

cast within ten yds on a rising tide, frozen black lug tipped with mack caught me eight on my last session, and from low to high should do the trick on either those beaches that polaris mentioned.hope this helps

strandhill fishes better for flats on the falling tide a thin strip of mack belly and a flapper rig works best

Will frozen lug and sandeel and mack do. I am going to strandhill on Friday. What time should I fsh it and what baits should I use. Where along the beach should I fish and what weight lead and what size hooks should I use. How far out should I cast.

well low tide is about two pm so from then till about seven should do it,low to high,3 hook flappers, size 2 or 4 hooks, judge the surf and start with a 2oz lead, and if its travelling across the beach to quickly then up the weight, and 5-10yds out is far enough.lug tipped with thin strips of mack should do the trick, and if you can bling up the snoods with some small beads.

How would you rig thoses. Thread a whole lug up and then add the mack strip and put some bait elastic over it. Would a just cut like a fillet and then small slivers half an inch wide. How would you rig the sandeel??

Thread about half a lug on,remember your hooks are small.then using a quarter inch strip of mack with most of the flesh removed twice onto the hook leaving a tail flapping of the hook.push a bait needle thru the sandeel, then bait elastic it and thread onto the hook,if you have no bait needle then slide the sandeel up the hook and elastic it on,dont forget to remove the head and tail to let the juices out for scent.

flounder are a sight feeder, meaning they actively hunt there food by sight as well as scent,so a bit of movement in the bait is a good thing, use small leads to keep the bait moving along the beach, also use small coloured beads and sequins above the hooks to add a bit of colour for the fish to see.some people swear by beads, some dont,i like them, and i catch a fair few flatties so...flatties will come into a few inches of water to find dinner,so keep your bait within the first two waves or closer on a rising tide.flounder have small mouths hence the small hooks, but remember you can get big fish on small hooks, but you wont get small fish on big hooks!(normally).there is still a chance that you will get a turbot as well as flounder so bait one of the hooks with a fish bait.one other thing, because you want movement in your rigs, have two different rigs made up,one with long snoods (two feet and longer) for beaches with small waves,(long snoods help impart movement)and one with snoods 12-16 inches for beaches with a large surf.(shorter snoods tangle less easily) hope this helps.
