West coast cod shore

Just wondering why you never get any cod on the west coast from the shore. Is the water temp to high or something. Only ever seen 1 red cod caught from shore in clare. From a rock mark and on feathers.

I think they are few and far between so no-one targets them, I know the lads on the other side of the bay had a few last year but I never heard of anything over a pound. An old fella from Lehinch told me he caught them about twenty years ago but he hasn't had any for years.

strange, we get codling all year round from the shore in antrim - though nothing compared to 40 years ago when they were prolific in numbers in red bay and when they used to throw back 3-4lb fish becos they were too small! overfishing!! - and plenty off cork by the sounds of it. so im guessing its not a temperature factor.
maybe clare shores arent the right sort of environment for schools of cod.. :?: as baitdigger says, maybe they just arent there.
doesnt anyone ever catch them even from a boat just offshore :?: have you ever tried fishing the shannon estuary? i have heard of codling being caught in it
