hey lads
just noticed a load of birds diving just off barna today unfortunately i had no rod with me just wondering what they would be diving for .

Possibly herring Taz? Maybe mackerel. Hard to know, maybe someone from your neck of the woods will know better than me, but I know we get shoals of herring this time of year.

There used to be a sizeable winter herring fishery along at the Cashla Bay end, boats came from all over for it in the 1970s, but it got fished out of course. Might be a small resurgence? Marine Institute would know.

they might be shoals of tuna dom.apperently all the supply of john west couldnt reach our shores with the bad weather so they went for the real thing

hi taz i think it would be herring sprat i saw a load of them caught in the dock a few weeks back.i got some but the scoop net i had was to small. ill be trying them for bait over the x mass.
