Buncrana/inishowen area over christmas

i currently live in Newcastle England so i have been fishing for cod coalie etc over here using lug, crab and rag.

I'm heading home at Christmas to Buncrana. What i want to know is what marks are fishing the best over the winter and where can i get bait. ive read cathd's posts and i am gonna hit the Dundee pier just wonder how to get down to it.

I will be going up to the in laws in moville and am bringing my gear so hope to see some reports of decent fishing up that way too.Last year went digging lug in the foyle in freezening temps lug were down about 30 inches not nice .This time im bringing bait with me.

You could try Ballyliffin or Culdaff beaches with mackeral strip and rag. It's been a month since I fished Culdaff and it was a coaliefest with a few flounder in the mid 30 cm mark and some small turbot on slivers of sandeel. Ballyliffin should be similar. If you're in Buncrana the pier might be worth a go for a winter ray? Don't know if they hang around there during winter but other lads might be able to give you a few pointers on that.

Lots of coalies about at the moment but nothing to big
Culdaff is throwing up a few flounder and small turbot ballyliffen the same
Dunree rocks will most likely be the same with a few dogs about,it's easy to get down
at Dunree just walk down through the wee pic nic area and there is a small bridge to take you
out onto where the old look out post is

Had some decent fishing in the area last weekend, plenty about. Will drop you a PM over the hols as will probably be up that way at some stage myself, will pool info....

John McLaughlin's shop outside Letterkenny might be your best bet for bait. Frozen stuff anyway. If you want fresh worms, best give him a week's notice.
