Lug on Back Strand Tramore

Mon Dec 06, 2010 8:21 pm

Hi guys, was hoping for a little advice if possible....

I went out on the hunt for lug today on the Back Strand in Tramore. VERY uneventful hunt... I think I walked about 5 miles with no success.... I did come across a few white rag, or what seemed like white rag. I was armed with my shovel and a bait pump but could not succeed in getting more than 1 lug! Maybe I was in the wrong spot?

I parked as far as possible up the pot holed car park and walked right up to opposite Saleens. I must have dug a hundred holes and found kinda worm shells rather than worms more than anything. Could anyone guide me where to go? It was low tide so I could have walked anywhere. I ususally head over Cheekpoint for rag and it is generally great because I know where to go but with Tramore Back Strand, I have NO Idea!

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Marc

To be honest I'd try find somewhere else for lug than there,
but if you have to dig there, from the car park walk along by the dump behind it and try keep on solid ground and walk out about 100yrds from the end, you should see lug holes ans squiggles.
but keep an eye out for the tide and try avoid going there by yourself, there is some fairly deep mud patches you can easily get stuck in..
but as I said try find somewhere else to dig that might be a bit easier..

Thanks for the reply. I did notice a lot of "soggy" spots, started getting stuck and went back and then round again.... Saw plenty of castings and holes, sometime too many are more difficult than a few if you know what I mean... Any suggestions somewhere in locality to that for lug? I am in waterford city... I don't mind a little drive... Cheers again.

Straight out from the back of the dump, park at the gate on Tramore side and follow the well used path across, impossible to miss the casts!! The worms are probably very far down due to cold.

Waterford Outdoor & Angling Centre can provide fresh lug too daily so call in for some there too.
