Galway (first time visit) 28th of november advice please
Tue Nov 23, 2010 4:12 am
I am going to Galway (i think the town) to a holiday home apartment.
I will be taking my regular little setup with a 4.oz weight and hockeyes and mack feathers...
I would like if possible suggestions of bait (rod will do spinning and ledger).. (have access to a selection of rigs). A shop maybe in the area for bait and extra bits.. Places to visit and have a few casts and hopefully a few fish.
Many thanks in advance
Anthony

i will be honest with you - dont think you will get much around the city spinnig at this time of year
if you get a 2 or 3 hook flapper - and get some mack and dig some lug
you could go for flatties at silverstrand or white fish off the pier in spiddal

as brian said, i wouldnt bother spinning near the city. salthill has plenty of coalies/whiting and some flats off the beaches so try one of those with a 3 hook flapper with small mack baits, lug is good too

i would agree with corbyeire, silverstrand about two miles outside the city on the spiddal rd will throw up flatties and coalies on a rising tide,(high about 9.30 pm on sat)also spiddal pier can be good for all sorts of small fish, coalies, poor cod, pout, whiting, particulary at night, buy some mack, frozen black lug, sandeel, that should cover you for bait, there are two tackle shops in galway, corrib tackle and duffys, and they stock frozen bait and all the rigs you might need.

Trying Barna Pier tomorrow 10.30 am ish - (hi tide midday ish) I experienced a fishing shop.. with an off licence and a pub in Galway!!! (There is a fishing god out there.) Was hoping to buy a tripod in town the over priced comments seem right will buy one on line. Reason I am picking Railings seem good second for a rod rest.. No baits (worms etc) really available in town.. grabbing wellies and spade going on a worm hunt b4 it gets dark. Did manage to get a mack fillet in town curious on how to keep it on the hook...
So if you want a laugh at the daft Englishman who does not know what he is doing.. come to Barna Pier tomorrow
Anthony.

i would strongly recommend you go out the road another 10 mins to spidal pier
barna fishes very badly - not that much depth of water there at all - and has various run off apparently going in there
i would be fairly confident of you picking up some small whitefish at spidal
good luck

The tide will suit there for the time your fishing at also... I've sent you a PM with my number let me know how you're fixed...
