Which wrasse have I got here? From 09. Thought it was a ballan now Im not so sure-- having seen the mini species guide.

ya sure is a corkwing alrite cathal.beautiful fish.ive never seen any bigger than that meself.i wonder can u get them bigger like the ballan ?????????????

Male corkwing wrasse, the females have a black dot near the tail fin, and dont have the same neon blue/green colouration.

thats as big as they get.... would be nice if they grew to the size of a ballan cos of the colours

Thanks for the IDs gfkelly and Brian, thanks for the responses everyone. Must get a look at that link gfkelly, thanks for that. I was hoping that wee wrasse was a corkwing. I had noticed these bizarrely coloured ones in the past but just thought they were variations of the ballan wrasse. Then I studied the photos of this fish and some ballans last winter and wondered why this one was different, in shape and colour, it wasnt as well made, or muscular as the ballans. It reminded me of a spent fish or gravid fish, there was something strange about it. Cool, another species I didnt realise was on my bit of the shore.
